Workshop Room #3 / Le Torrent
Across Quebec, churches, convents, and religious heritage sites are seeking a new purpose. Behind these places steeped in history lie as many challenges as there are opportunities: high maintenance costs, heritage restrictions, public expectations, economic viability, social acceptability, and tourism development. This master class offers a hands-on exploration of the challenges involved in repurposing religious heritage buildings, at the intersection of collective entrepreneurship, regional development, and cultural tourism. Drawing on real-world case studies and on-the-ground experiences, the speakers will share redevelopment strategies, hybrid economic models, approaches to community engagement, and ways to intelligently integrate tourism into projects that are first and foremost rooted in the local community. This is an opportunity to explore how to foster dialogue between heritage, collective projects, and tourism development, in order to transform these sites into true drivers of regional vitality.
